In today's world,Money is tight, but that doesn't mean our homes need to be dreary.
A house should be a sanctuary, and as such, it should be decorated to reflect not only
your particular tastes, but decorated in such a way that it makes guests and residents feel comfortable,
safe and welcomedLuckily, this is easy to do even on a budget.
There are as many ways to cheaply decorate a house as your imagination can dream up.
Paint:
- Paint is the most popular and dramatic way to decorate your home for cheap. It is amazing how different a room will look after it's been painted.
- An ugly, cheap vase found at a garage sale will look very different after it's been spray painted a glossy, modern black. Fake brass photo frames look much different when spray painted a crisp, clean white color.
- Add some architectural details as well. Pre-painted and cut molding is very inexpensive and easy to hang. Finish off your paint job with a chair rail or some ceiling molding. Install molding around windows and bedroom doors to really make them stand out. Finally, don't forget spray paint. You can paint almost anything.
- Decorate simply by giving your drab white walls a nice coat in a neutral color, or go all out and paint some interesting stripes or other designs on your walls.
Textiles:
- Textiles are a great way to decorate your home for cheap. First, check out the remnant table at your local fabric store.
- Fabric can also be cut and used as a table runner, side table cover or even as artwork. Remnants can be used to recover pillows (just use hemming tape if you don't sew) or as curtain panels (again, use hemming tape and hang with clips for an easy, no-sew curtain).
- Check your local discount store for sales on blankets also. A blanket thrown over the back of a chair, sofa or across the foot of a bed can update your home for pennies on the dollar.
- Simply stretch a patterned piece of fabric over an artist's canvas, staple it to the back and hang.
Bring the Outdoors Inside:
- Plants are one of the best ways to cheaply decorate your home.
- A row of grasses growing from terra cotta pots on a plant ledge will brighten up any family room.
- Continue with your outdoors theme by filling a pretty glass bowl with rocks, or by laying some twisted driftwood and some shells on your fireplace mantel
- An armful of blooming tree branches in a large vase makes a stunning display in the spring. Small, inexpensive pots of herbs bring color to a kitchen windowsill
